Stadtschlaining – castle with moat

Schlaining Castle with its moat in the town of Stadtschlaining, Burgenland. First mentioned in records in 1271, the castle was acquired by the Province of Burgenland in 1980. In 1982, the private association “Austrian Study Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution” (ÖSFK) was founded with its seat at the castle. Since then the castle, which also houses a museum, has been promoted as the “Peace Castle”. For the anniversary exhibition “100 Years of Burgenland” the castle was completely renovated for around 14 million: [1] .
